What’s the difference between stand-by and portable generators?
Stand-by generators are permanently installed appliances, like a compressor for a central air-conditioning system. Its engine runs on natural gas or propane. A portable back-up generator is a small, gas-engine generator that you wheel into position outside the house and plug into the transfer switch. Stand-by units should be sized according to their required wattage use, from essential systems like furnaces and refrigerators to comfort features like lighting and air conditioning.
How do stand-by generators work?
Stand-by generators offer fully automatic operation. They’re connected to an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), which is connected to the main electric panel. When utility power is lost, the ATS activates, collects power from the generator, and sends it back to the main panel. When utility power is restored, the ATS automatically shuts off and reverts the power source back to the main electrical panel.
We sell and service portable generators too!
Portable generators are a welcome addition to many activities at home , at work, and away. In an emergency, portable generators can provide critical backup power. They make camping and tailgating more comfortable. And contractors appreciate the flexibility portable power brings to the jobsite.

Once diagnostics are complete, a detailed estimate of the repair (including parts & labor) is provided for customer approval before any work begins. Upon approval, items are scheduled for repair and the initial REF will be credited to the repair order. (Customers are required to pay the REF on declined repair orders.)
